The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Learning basics

What do you need to learn with ProgKids?
The lessons are delivered online, so you will need a computer (Windows, macOS, Linux) with an internet connection.
Which programming languages can be learned using ProgKids?
In present moment we offer training courses for the programming languages Snap and Python. Soon, however, more programming languages will be available. All courses are using the world of Minecraft.

Snap is perfect for the younger learners, who are not yet familiar with programming. They don't have to type the commands - the program is made up of colourful blocks which are stacked on top of one another with the help of the mouse.

Python is mainly for the older students, who are already familiar with working with the computer. It's one of the most popular programming languages, which is used in Google, Yandex, Mail.ru and other IT-corporations and startups. Python programming skills allow you to work with robotics and artificial intelligence, create websites and web applications, do analytics and research.
How do you learn to program through a computer game?
Students complete assignments on the ProgKids website to achieve the desired results in the game. For example, a child can write a program that will build a house or populate the game with animals. Later, he will even learn how to create his own mini-games inside Minecraft.
What if the children are not sure that they want to be a programmer?
Programming skills offer many advantages for both children and adults. They develop logic, teach to think creatively and effectively solve problems.

The ProgKids courses will introduce the child to many important concepts of mathematics and programming: coordinates, variables, lists, conditions, loops, and functions. In addition, he will learn to create impressive projects and mini games in Minecraft.
From which age can you start learning programming?
It depends on the child's interests and abilities. Usually, programming using Snap can start from 7 onwards. Children that are older than 10 should try Python.
Where should I start when it comes to learning programming?
We recommend starting with the Snap course. If the student already has enough experience they'll quickly pass the course and move on to Python. You can already start with Python if you feel like you are ready. You can always change the course if there are any difficulties.
How do I start?
First you have to register on the website. You can read the detailed instructions on our blog.
