Advent calendar and how to motivate your child to study using it

Advent calendar

The time before the New Year holidays is always special. It is during this period that we begin to believe in miracles and look forward to the most magical night of the year. Now is the time to start preparing for the holiday! In this article, we'll show you how to brighten up the expectation of a child usefully.

And if he loves computer technology, we'll be happy to discover the IT world to him in classes at Progkids!

What is an advent calendar

This is a special calendar used to count down the remaining days to Christmas. This tradition first originated in Germany and has spread throughout the world over time. The purpose of the advent calendar is to prepare the child for the holiday and brighten up his expectation with small daily surprises.

How it works

The advent calendar consists of 24 windows or pockets, each corresponding to one day in December until Christmas (In Russia, where it is celebrated in January, there will be 31). Each window hides a nice gift, for example, a chocolate bar, a small toy, a coin, a kind message or a lollipop. Looking into another pocket every day, the child feels the atmosphere of joy and is charged with a festive mood.

What are advent calendars

Modern advent calendars are striking in their diversity. Parents can find exactly what they like: from classic chocolate windows to more complex versions that hide children's cosmetics, collectible toys and motivational notes in their pockets.

How to make an Advent calendar yourself

Creating an Advent calendar with your own hands is a great opportunity to be creative and make waiting for the holiday more fun. Here are some ideas on how to create an original Advent calendar:

From envelopes

Attach envelopes with numbers from 1 to 24 or 31 to the board. Put a note, a funny card, a small gift or a “treat” in each envelope.

Surprise jars

Take small glass jars and decorate them with festive ribbons, stickers, rhinestones, etc. Put candy, marmalade or Lego pieces inside — one for each day.

Felt pockets

Sew the required number of felt pockets and attach them to the canvas. Put a pleasant surprise in each pocket.

Matchbox calendars

Decorate 24 or 31 matchboxes and fold them into a Christmas tree or other pattern. Put a surprise inside each one.

Paper bags

Use colorful gift bags for gifts by hanging them on a rope or Christmas tree.

Striped socks

Buy the right amount of cute baby socks and hide sweets and toys in them. Then socks can be used for their intended purpose =)

Mug calendars

Place the required number of mugs along the shelf and place a small gift in each, covering the top with an improvised cardboard or golden paper lid.

Christmas train

Create a train out of cardboard boxes where each wagon will contain a surprise. Such a train can also be made from matchboxes.

Advent hide and seek

Kids love quests, so you can hide a new surprise somewhere in the house every day.

How to motivate your child to study using the Advent calendar

An advent calendar can be a great tool for motivating a child. This fun will turn the learning process into an exciting activity that the child will look forward to. Here are some ideas on how you can use the Advent calendar for this purpose:

Educational assignments

Put small puzzles related to school subjects in your Advent calendar pockets. These can be math problems, riddles, and even crossword puzzles on topics under study. After the child completes the task, he gets a surprise: a lollipop or a small toy.

Motivational messages

Include notes with motivational phrases in your calendar to inspire your child to new achievements.

Interactive moment

Come up with tasks that require activity and creativity, such as creating a model from scrap materials or conducting a simple experiment.

We play detective stories

You can come up with a whole detective story in which a child learns new facts every day and solves problems from the school curriculum, gradually moving towards solving the mystery.

Motivational phrases for the advent calendar

Creating an advent calendar with motivational phrases is a great way to inspire a child. Here are a few ideas for phrases like this:

1. “Every day is a new opportunity to be better than yesterday.”

2. “You can do anything if you believe in yourself.”

3. “Courage is the first step towards great achievement.”

4. “Don't be afraid of mistakes, they teach you to be stronger.”

5. “Dreams come true when you're willing to work on them.”

6. “A smile makes every day brighter.”

7. “The real magic is kindness and caring for others.”

8. “Do what you love and success will come by itself.”

9. “Every little achievement brings you closer to a big goal.”

10. “Be thankful for every moment and find joy in simple things.”

Make the Advent calendar your family tradition and it will help you feel the magic before the New Year.
