Python for kids: why is it a great choice?

Kids code in Python

Python is a relatively accessible and easy to understand programming language. Very often, novice coders begin to learn the basics of writing programs from it. It is suitable for developing simple games, creating art or animations.

Why choose Python?

Python has a simple syntax that is easy to read and understand. It is one of the most popular and simple programming languages, created by Guido van Rossum. Python was released in 1991 and has been gaining popularity ever since.
In order to start coding in Python, you must first learn the basic concepts of the language, for example, basic variables for storing data, which are divided into various types: numbers, strings, lists, as well as control flow structures such as conditional statements and loops.

It will also be relatively easy for a child to learn Python due to its simplicity and versatility.

Here are a few more reasons why this language is a great choice for novice programmers:

1. Python is highly readable: it is more like English than machine language. This makes it easier for both adults and children to digest.
2. Python has its own active community and supportive community. There are several structured free resources where you can find the necessary materials, tutorials and answers to any questions, as well as discuss code features and show off your project.
3. The versatility and simplicity of Python allows it to be used in creating various projects: games, applications, web products. It can be used to analyze data and explore AI. Thus, Python will “support” any child's interest.

How do you start?

To start programming in Python, you first need to set up a development environment. The environment is an area where a programmer codes and writes a program using interactive tools.

PC installation

Python is free to install on a PC and is compatible with different operating systems: Windows, Linux, IOS, etc. To do this, you need to go to the official Python website and follow the download instructions.

What is Python syntax?

Syntax is a set of rules that govern how to write Python code, its structure, and formatting.
It is necessary to follow these rules so that Python can correctly interpret the commands set by the programmer.
Python code is written as a sequence of operators, each of which is an action or command. For example, operators include assigning a value to a variable, calling a function, or defining a cycle.
Instead of braces or keywords, as in other programming languages, Python uses indents to mark the beginning and end of code blocks. Four spaces or tabs are usually used for indentation.

The first Python program

To start learning Python, let's program the phrase “Hello World!” to appear on screen. This can be done with a single line of code: print (“Hello World!”)

If you want to introduce your child to the world of coding, sign up for an online Python course at Progkids programming school! Our young and creative teachers will be happy to involve young programmers in a learning process that they find fun and exciting. An individual approach to each child will help them learn the material at their own pace and choose tasks according to their own interests.
