The most unusual robots in the world ‍

sloth robot

Robots have quietly become part of our lives: they help us in a variety of areas. Scientists and inventors from all over the world are not resting on their laurels and continue to generate robo-ideas, and we can only marvel at their fantasies!

In this article, we'll tell you the stories of several amazing robots.

SlothBot SlothBot Robot

There is an unusual robot at the Atlanta Botanical Garden in Georgia. He looks like a sloth moving slowly along tree branches. SlothBot collects important environmental data, such as measuring temperature and carbon dioxide levels.

Why choose a sloth? Moving slowly helps the robot pretend to be part of the environment and quietly carry out its mission. Thus, with its help, scientists decided to find out what pollinates a genus of rare orchids in the Ecuadorian rainforest. To collect information, the robot uses a set of special sensors that do not produce noise.

Russian space robot

The humanoid robot Fedor was originally created as a rescuer for emergency situations. However, he ended up in 2019 by the Russian space agency Roskomos instead. Fedor was testing a new emergency rescue system aboard the spacecraft: he had to connect and disconnect electrical cables using standard tools like a screwdriver and a wrench. It was assumed that the robot's main mission would be to fly to the International Space Station, where it would assist the astronaut in risky spacewalks. However, in fact, it turned out that Fedor had too long legs and clumsy arms, and it was very difficult for him to operate them in a state of zero gravity. Therefore, the robot had to return to Earth to complete a number of improvements.

Robot comedian

Since we can no longer imagine life without robots, scientists Naomi T. Fitter and John Wilk decided that for a more interesting conversation, it would be a good idea to teach the robot a sense of humor. This is how John, a funny robo-boy who is part of a study at Oregon State University, came into being. The stand-up robot is successfully touring comedy clubs in California and Oregon to hone his sense of humor.

Weed killer

This agricultural robot kills 100,000 weeds per hour using built-in lasers. Such thermal weeding does not disturb the soil, which reduces costs and eliminates the use of herbicides.

Parkour robots

Yes, they can jump over chasms, climb stairs, jump over obstacles, and run on logs. Robots that parkour are cool, isn't it? However, Atlas robots are certainly meant for more: one day they can become true robo-rescuers!

Robo pillow with tail

Qoobo is one of the weirdest robots in the world. It is round and trimmed with fur, which resembles a cat's back. This minimalist robot is actually a therapy pillow with a tail. If you stroke its “back”, the tail will move. The robot is designed to reduce stress and prevent its owner from feeling alone.
